Skip hire in Bolton

First published 12 September 2026. Last checked 12 September 2026.

Bolton is a HoC Other city – not one of the 1,174 small/medium/large towns. A skip on the public road needs a Bolton Council highway licence – the skip company usually applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Bolton”. Check the carrier’s CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Which authority

Local notes

Bolton bands registered-operator fees by road type (Band A/B/C for seven days to 31 Mar 2027) – unregistered rates are higher, so use a firm already on the central register. Fee note: registered: Band A £12.90 / Band B £16.50 / Band C £37.50 per 7 days (to 31 Mar 2027), rechecked 12 Sep 2026.

The fee note above is from Bolton Council’s published page (or an honest note when none was printed), not a hire quote.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Bolton Council highway area and ask them to apply. Give them the notice on the permit page.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk lists rules and council links, not a directory of firms. When we add a booking partner it will be labelled (affiliate) on partners.
