Skip hire in Castle Acre

First published 24 October 2026. Last checked 24 October 2026.

Castle Acre is in the Norfolk County Council highway area. A skip on the public road, pavement or verge needs the council's skip licence, and a new application is needed every time a skip is placed. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

About Castle Acre

Castle Acre is a village and civil parish in the borough of King's Lynn and West Norfolk, on the River Nar 4 miles north of Swaffham and 26 miles west of Norwich. It had 862 residents at the 2021 census, up slightly from 848 in 2011.

The village takes its name from Castle Acre Castle, built in 1085 by William de Warenne, who also founded Castle Acre Priory for Cluniac monks in 1090; English Heritage now looks after both, and St James' Church, from the 14th century, has been Grade I listed since 1960.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or "top skips in Castle Acre". Check the carrier's CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Which authority

Norfolk County Council is the highway authority for every Norfolk district (Breckland, Broadland, Great Yarmouth, King's Lynn and West Norfolk, North Norfolk, Norwich, South Norfolk). Full permit detail: Skip permit: Norfolk County Council. On the council's highways fees page (checked 24 October 2026; fees from 1 April 2026): £55.94 for the first 28 days and £55.94 for each further 28 days. The skip licence page asks for £5m public liability insurance, the waste carrier's certificate and a drawing of the skip position, so in practice the skip company applies. Trunk roads are National Highways, not the county. County map: Skip hire in Norfolk.

Local notes

Castle Acre is in the borough of King's Lynn and West Norfolk, but Norfolk County Council, not the borough council, licences skips on the road. The council does not print a notice period on its skip licence page, so ask the firm how much notice it needs, and expect a new application each time a skip is placed. The castle and priory ruins are English Heritage sites; do not plan on putting a skip on their land or verges. St James' Church stands at the junction of High Street and South Acre; if your home is near it or on a narrow village street, check the lorry can reach and agree where the skip will sit. Swaffham, 4 miles south, is in Breckland but under the same county licence.

Nearby on Skip Clerk: Swaffham, Narborough, Great Massingham, Necton.

Norfolk's recycling centres need a booked slot (free, up to one week ahead). DIY waste from work you did yourself on your own home is free up to two 50-litre sacks or one item per visit, with no more than four such visits in any four weeks; above that you pay as you throw (rubble, soil and stones £4.50, plasterboard £14 per 100 litres). Plasterboard is taken only at Caister, Dereham, Hempton, King's Lynn, Norwich North, Norwich South and Thetford, and no site takes asbestos. Waste from work you paid a trader for gets no free allowance. Source: Norfolk County Council: DIY waste and Norfolk Recycling Centre bookings.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Norfolk County Council area and ask how much notice it needs for the licence. Recheck the council pages on the day you book.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £55.94 figure is Norfolk County Council's published licence fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
