Skip hire in Edithmead
Edithmead is in the Somerset Council highway area. A skip on the public road needs that council’s licence – the hire firm applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.
About Edithmead
Edithmead is a village in the civil parish of Burnham Without, north-east of Highbridge and east of Burnham-on-Sea. The parish is mostly drained farmland between the coast and Brent Knoll, and also includes Watchfield.
Edithmead sits close to the M5 approaches. The built-up area is a HoC Village.
Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Edithmead”. Check the carrier’s CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.
Which authority
Somerset Council is the highway authority. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Somerset Council. On that page (checked 2 September 2026; still the figures we cite on 13 Sep 2026): £109 for 28 days (non-refundable), extension £109, at least ten working days’ notice, accredited contractors only. Do not invent a different fee. County map and the other two unitaries: Skip hire in Somerset.
Private drive vs road
- Wholly on a driveway or other private land you control: no highway licence from Somerset Council.
- Any part on the public road or highway: yes. The hire firm applies.
- Pavement: you cannot put a skip there. National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.
Local notes
Edithmead sits near the M5 and Burnham–Highbridge fringe. Prefer a private drive over the motorway-side lanes and A38 approaches.
Somerset Council’s construction-waste page lets each household bring up to eight 50-litre sacks of DIY construction waste a month to a recycling site, free, over a maximum of four booked visits. Plasterboard is on that list; extra plasterboard is listed at £6.60 a sheet. Own-home only; pre-book. Not every site takes plasterboard. How to hire without a fake directory
- Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
- If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Somerset Council area and ask them to apply. Give them more than ten working days.
- Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.
Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £109 figure is Somerset Council’s published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
