Skip hire in Grays

First published 12 September 2026. Last checked 12 September 2026.

Grays sits in the Thurrock Council highway area. A skip on the public road needs that council’s licence – the skip company usually applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Thurrock Council is the highway authority for this town. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Thurrock Council. On that page (checked 12 Sep 2026): £100 for each whole or part 7-day period. skip company extends if needed. County map: Skip hire in Essex.

Local notes

High Street and riverside approaches share space with terraces; Thurrock Council is the unitary highway authority (not Essex County). Fee note: £100 for each whole or part 7-day period, rechecked 12 Sep 2026.

The fee note above is from Thurrock Council’s published page (or an honest note when none was printed), not a hire quote.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Thurrock Council highway area and ask them to apply. Give them the notice on the permit page.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk lists rules and council links, not a directory of firms. When we add a booking partner it will be labelled (affiliate) on partners.
