Skip hire in Great Ryburgh

First published 26 October 2026. Last checked 26 October 2026.

Great Ryburgh is in the Norfolk County Council highway area. A skip on the public road, pavement or verge needs the council's skip licence, and a new application is needed every time a skip is placed. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

About Great Ryburgh

Great Ryburgh is a village in North Norfolk, 2.9 miles south-east of Fakenham, and since 1987 part of the civil parish of Ryburgh with Little Ryburgh. The River Wensum flows through the village.

A 2016 excavation found a 7th to 9th-century Anglo-Saxon cemetery with 81 tree-trunk coffins. A maltings has stood here since 1870, and St Andrew's on Mill Road is one of Norfolk's round-tower churches.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or "top skips in Great Ryburgh". Check the carrier's CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Which authority

Norfolk County Council is the highway authority for every Norfolk district (Breckland, Broadland, Great Yarmouth, King's Lynn and West Norfolk, North Norfolk, Norwich, South Norfolk). Full permit detail: Skip permit: Norfolk County Council. On the council's highways fees page (checked 26 October 2026; fees from 1 April 2026): £55.94 for the first 28 days and £55.94 for each further 28 days. The skip licence page asks for £5m public liability insurance, the waste carrier's certificate and a drawing of the skip position, so in practice the skip company applies. Trunk roads are National Highways, not the county. County map: Skip hire in Norfolk.

Local notes

Great Ryburgh is in North Norfolk district, but Norfolk County Council, not the district council, licences skips on the road. The council does not print a notice period on its skip licence page, so ask the firm how much notice it needs, and expect a new application each time a skip is placed. St Andrew's Church is on Mill Road; on the village streets, check the lorry can reach your home before you book and agree where it will stop. If your home is near the Wensum, keep the skip on firm ground back from the river. Fakenham is under 3 miles away and under the same county licence; the parish is Ryburgh, so give your full postcode.

Nearby on Skip Clerk: Fakenham, Foulsham, North Elmham, Great Massingham.

Norfolk's recycling centres need a booked slot (free, up to one week ahead). DIY waste from work you did yourself on your own home is free up to two 50-litre sacks or one item per visit, with no more than four such visits in any four weeks; above that you pay as you throw (rubble, soil and stones £4.50, plasterboard £14 per 100 litres). Plasterboard is taken only at Caister, Dereham, Hempton, King's Lynn, Norwich North, Norwich South and Thetford, and no site takes asbestos. Waste from work you paid a trader for gets no free allowance. Source: Norfolk County Council: DIY waste and Norfolk Recycling Centre bookings.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Norfolk County Council area and ask how much notice it needs for the licence. Recheck the council pages on the day you book.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £55.94 figure is Norfolk County Council's published licence fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
