Skip hire in Greater Manchester
Greater Manchester is ten metropolitan boroughs, each with its own highway skip licence. Manchester City Council does not cover Stockport, Wigan or Salford. Name the borough for your road, then ask the hire firm to apply.
This is a hub, not a list of firms. Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Greater Manchester”. Check the carrier’s CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.
Ten boroughs, ten permit offices
There is no single “Greater Manchester” skip licence. TfGM does not issue Highways Act skip permits. Private drive: usually no licence. Public road: the borough council. National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.

How to hire without a fake directory
- Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
- Name the highway authority for your road and ask the firm to apply. Same-day drops are much more realistic on a driveway.
- Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Keep asbestos, plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator has a written specialist route – what you cannot put in a skip and asbestos and skips.
