Skip hire in Matfield

First published 13 October 2026. Last checked 13 October 2026.

Matfield is in the Kent County Council highway area (not Medway). A skip on the public road needs that council's licence – the hire firm applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

About Matfield

Matfield is a small village in the civil parish of Brenchley and Matfield, in Tunbridge Wells borough, about 5 miles south-east of Royal Tunbridge Wells and 2 miles south of Paddock Wood. It grew up around its village green, the largest in Kent, with a pond at the northern end and the Grade I listed Georgian Matfield House overlooking it.

The poet Siegfried Sassoon was born here, and Matfield was named Kent Village of the Year in 2010.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or "top skips in Matfield". Check the carrier's CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Which authority

Kent County Council is the highway authority (not Medway). Full permit detail: Skip permit: Kent County Council. Private drive vs road

Local notes

Matfield is in Tunbridge Wells borough, but Kent County Council licences skips on the road. Many homes face the green or the roads around it; the green is not part of the road, so do not plan to put a skip on it. If your drive is too small, the skip will need a Kent road permit, which the hire firm applies for at least five working days ahead.

Kent County Council recycling-centre guidance covers what household DIY waste each site accepts; rules and any booking or charges change, so check before you travel and keep plasterboard separate when asked. Source: Kent household waste recycling centres.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Kent County Council area (not Medway) and ask them to apply. Recheck the council fees page on the day you book.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £45 figure is Kent County Council's published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
