Skip hire in Nottingham

First published 12 September 2026. Last checked 12 September 2026.

Nottingham is a HoC Core city (outside London) – not one of the 1,174 small/medium/large towns. A skip on the public road needs a Nottingham City Council highway licence – the skip company usually applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Nottingham”. Check the carrier’s CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Which authority

Nottingham City Council is the highway authority. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Nottingham City Council. On that page (checked 12 Sep 2026): £50 per builders skip application (Highway Activity Licence Fees 2026/27 PDF). highway activity licence.

Local notes

Nottingham City Council is unitary and separate from Nottinghamshire County Council – Arnold, Beeston and West Bridgford use the county permit, not this one. Fee note: £50 per builders skip application (Highway Activity Licence Fees 2026/27 PDF), rechecked 12 Sep 2026.

The fee note above is from Nottingham City Council’s published page (or an honest note when none was printed), not a hire quote.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Nottingham City Council highway area and ask them to apply. Give them the notice on the permit page.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk lists rules and council links, not a directory of firms. When we add a booking partner it will be labelled (affiliate) on partners.
