Skip hire in St Margaret's at Cliffe
St Margaret's at Cliffe is in the Kent County Council highway area (not Medway). A skip on the public road needs that council's licence – the hire firm applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.
About St Margaret's at Cliffe
St Margaret's at Cliffe is a three-part settlement just off the coast road between Deal and Dover in Kent. The village centre sits about three-quarters of a mile inland, with Nelson Park further back and St Margaret's Bay below the cliffs north of South Foreland.
Channel swimmers and submarine cables have long used the bay; Leathercote Point marks the western end of the conventional North Sea–English Channel divide.
Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or "top skips in St Margaret's at Cliffe". Check the carrier's CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.
Which authority
Kent County Council is the highway authority (not Medway). Full permit detail: Skip permit: Kent County Council. On that page (fees rechecked 28 September 2026 on Kent's live highways fees table): £45 per week for 2026 to 2027 (£43 for 2025 to 2026), seven calendar days; at least five working days' notice; company applies; £5m public liability; max skip size 5 m × 2 m in the terms; failure to licence £120. Private drive vs road
- Wholly on a driveway or other private land you control: no highway licence from Kent County Council.
- Any part on the public road or highway: yes. The hire firm applies.
- Pavement: you cannot put a skip there. National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.
Local notes
St Margaret's at Cliffe sits between Deal and Dover, with the bay below the South Foreland cliffs. Prefer a private drive; coast-road approaches and the steep drop to St Margaret's Bay leave little room for a long roadside stay.
Kent County Council recycling-centre guidance covers what household DIY waste each site accepts; rules and any booking or charges change, so check before you travel and keep plasterboard separate when asked. Source: Kent household waste recycling centres.
How to hire without a fake directory
- Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
- If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Kent County Council area (not Medway) and ask them to apply. Recheck the council fees page on the day you book.
- Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.
Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £45 figure is Kent County Council's published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
