Skip hire in Whickham

First published 12 September 2026. Last checked 12 September 2026.

Whickham sits in the Gateshead Council highway area. A skip on the public road needs that council’s licence – the skip company usually applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Gateshead Council is the highway authority for this town. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Gateshead Council. On that page (checked 12 Sep 2026): scheme member £28 / same-day £62 / non-member £36 (max 28 days). permit before deposit.

Local notes

Whickham neighbourhood loops and through-roads share space with parked cars; a driveway drop is simpler when you have one. Gateshead Council is the highway authority for Whickham. Fee note: scheme member £28 / same-day £62 / non-member £36 (max 28 days), rechecked 12 Sep 2026.

The fee note above is from Gateshead Council’s published page (or an honest note when none was printed), not a hire quote.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Gateshead Council highway area and ask them to apply. Give them the notice on the permit page.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk lists rules and council links, not a directory of firms. When we add a booking partner it will be labelled (affiliate) on partners.
