Skip hire in Whitstable

First published 8 September 2026. Last checked 8 September 2026.

Whitstable’s harbour streets are tight for lorries; Kent County Council still issues the highway skip licence. A skip on the public road needs that licence – the skip company applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Whitstable”. Check the carrier’s CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Which authority

Kent County Council is the highway authority for this town (not Medway). Full permit detail: Skip permit: Kent County Council. On that page (checked 7 September 2026): skip company applies, £45 per week for 2026 to 2027 (£43 for 2025 to 2026), at least five working days’ notice, max skip size 5 m × 2 m in the terms, £5m public liability to register. County map: Skip hire in Kent. Medway’s own permit (Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham): Skip permit: Medway Council.

Private drive vs road

Local placement note

Harbour Road and the old town lanes often favour a private-drive drop if you have one. If it must sit on the road, ask the firm to apply to Kent County Council. Terms cap skips at 5 metres long and 2 metres wide. Give them at least five working days. Fee: £45 per week (2026–27), checked 7 September 2026.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Kent County Council highway area and ask them to apply. Give them at least five working days.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £45 figure is Kent County Council’s published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
