Skip hire in Bath

First published 3 September 2026. Last checked 3 September 2026.

Bath is in Bath and North East Somerset – a separate unitary from Somerset Council. A skip on the public road needs BANES permission – the supplier or contractor applies, not you alone. A skip wholly on private land with no encroachment does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Bath”. Check the carrier’s CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Which authority

Bath and North East Somerset Council (BANES) is the highway authority – not Somerset Council. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Bath and North East Somerset. On that page (checked 2 September 2026): supplier or contractor applies (householders may not alone); urgent about two days, others up to five; £5m public liability; parking suspension may be needed in a residents’ parking zone or controlled bay; no skip-licence fee printed on the application page that day – do not invent one. Private drive vs road

Recycling centres

BANES runs three recycling centres: Bath (Midland Road – by appointment only; closed Tuesdays), Keynsham, and Midsomer Norton (by appointment only). Bath residents must book Bath or Midsomer Norton online before visiting, or they will be turned away; Keynsham does not use the same timed booking for cars. Residents only. See BANES find a recycling centre and Bath recycling centre. That is an HWRC rule, not a substitute for a licensed skip carrier when the pile is too big for a booked visit. BANES has also warned that fridge and freezer acceptance can be temporarily unavailable – check the live page before you load one.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in BANES and ask them to apply as the supplier. Allow up to five days (about two if they mark it urgent), and ask whether a parking suspension is needed.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. BANES did not print a skip-licence fee on its application page – ask the firm what they will charge for that step. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
