Skip hire in Bicknacre

First published 15 October 2026. Last checked 15 October 2026.

Bicknacre is in the Essex County Council highway area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock). A skip on the public road needs that council's licence – a licensed skip contractor applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

About Bicknacre

Bicknacre is a village in the civil parish of Woodham Ferrers and Bicknacre, in Chelmsford district, about 4 miles (6.5 km) north of South Woodham Ferrers and 5.7 miles (9.2 km) south-east of Chelmsford. A priory of Augustinian canons stood here from about 1154, and its Priory Arch survives in Priory Fields, now looked after by local volunteers.

The village grew from 1969, when new homes, a school, a village hall and shops were built, and the Thriftwood Estate of about 300 homes followed to the south in the 1980s.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or "top skips in Bicknacre". Check the carrier's CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Private drive vs road

Local notes

Bicknacre is in Chelmsford district, but Essex County Council (Essex Highways), not the city council, licences skips on the road. Priory Fields, round the Priory Arch, is community land on a long lease, not highway, so do not plan to put a skip there. If your home has a drive, a skip wholly on it needs no Essex licence; any part on the highway needs a licensed contractor and at least ten working days' notice.

Essex County Council recycling centres (Love Essex) are for household waste; some sites accept limited DIY waste if you did the work yourself. Rules, booking and DIY limits change, so check before you travel and keep plasterboard and soil within the published limits. Source: Love Essex: DIY waste and find a recycling centre.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Essex County Council area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock) and ask them to apply. Recheck the council fees page on the day you book.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £111.66 figure is Essex County Council's published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
