Skip hire in Brighton and Hove

First published 12 September 2026. Last checked 12 September 2026.

Brighton and Hove is a HoC Other city – not one of the 1,174 small/medium/large towns. A skip on the public road needs a Brighton and Hove City Council highway licence – the skip company usually applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Brighton and Hove”. Check the carrier’s CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Local notes

Brighton and Hove publishes separate standard and large-skip bands for 1, 7 and 28 days (2026/27 fees page) – confirm skip size with the firm before they apply. Fee note: standard skip 2026/27: £15.40 (1 day), £48.40 (7 days), £89.10 (28 days), rechecked 12 Sep 2026.

The fee note above is from Brighton and Hove City Council’s published page (or an honest note when none was printed), not a hire quote.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Brighton and Hove City Council highway area and ask them to apply. Give them the notice on the permit page.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk lists rules and council links, not a directory of firms. When we add a booking partner it will be labelled (affiliate) on partners.
