Skip hire in Cherhill
Cherhill is in the Wiltshire Council highway area. A skip on the public road needs that council's licence – the hire firm applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.
About Cherhill
Cherhill is a village and civil parish in Wiltshire, England. The village is about 2+1⁄2 miles (4 km) east of the town of Calne, on the A4 road towards Marlborough.
The parish includes the village of Yatesbury and the hamlets of Blackland, Theobald's Green, Calstone Wellington and Calstone. It is classed as a village in the House of Commons Library settlement file.
Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or "top skips in Cherhill". Check the carrier's CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.
Which authority
Wiltshire Council is the highway authority. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Wiltshire Council. On that page (checked 25 September 2026; live council licences page rechecked tonight – still no pound fee printed on the accessible scaffolding/skips page, and the Civica payment portal returned unavailable): fee not printed on council page. S139 skip licence; the hire firm applies. Do not invent a fee from a third-party site. County map: Skip hire in Wiltshire.
Private drive vs road
- Wholly on a driveway or other private land you control: no highway licence from Wiltshire Council.
- Any part on the public road or highway: yes. The hire firm applies.
- Pavement: you cannot put a skip there. National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.
Local notes
Cherhill sits on Wiltshire Council’s highway network, with Marlborough-road approaches in play for deliveries. Prefer a private drive; village streets and through-routes leave little room for a long roadside stay.
Wiltshire Council recycling-centre guidance covers booking and what each site accepts for household DIY waste; rules and any charges change, so check before you travel and keep plasterboard separate when asked. Source: Wiltshire recycling centres.
How to hire without a fake directory
- Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
- If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Wiltshire Council area and ask them to apply. Recheck the council page for notice and any fee on the day you book.
- Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.
Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. For Wiltshire we still show an honest "fee not printed" note rather than inventing a pound figure. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
