Skip hire in Earls Colne

First published 14 October 2026. Last checked 14 October 2026.

Earls Colne is in the Essex County Council highway area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock). A skip on the public road needs that council's licence – a licensed skip contractor applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

About Earls Colne

Earls Colne is a village and civil parish in Braintree district, standing on the River Colne. It takes its name from the river and from the Earls of Oxford, who held the manor from before 1086 until 1703.

It is one of the best-recorded villages in the UK: a Cambridge University study between 1972 and 2002 indexed its surviving parish and manor records from 1380 to 1854. At the 2021 census the parish had 3,971 people.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or "top skips in Earls Colne". Check the carrier's CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Private drive vs road

Local notes

Earls Colne is in Braintree district; Essex County Council licences skips on the road. The High Street keeps old buildings, such as the Co-op in a building dating from about 1480 to 1510, so agree the exact spot and lorry access with the firm before delivery. A skip wholly on your own drive needs no Essex licence; any part on the highway needs a licensed contractor's application at least ten working days ahead.

Essex County Council recycling centres (Love Essex) are for household waste; some sites accept limited DIY waste if you did the work yourself. Rules, booking and DIY limits change, so check before you travel and keep plasterboard and soil within the published limits. Source: Love Essex: DIY waste and find a recycling centre.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Essex County Council area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock) and ask them to apply. Recheck the council fees page on the day you book.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £111.66 figure is Essex County Council's published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
