Skip hire in Great Oakley

First published 15 October 2026. Last checked 15 October 2026.

Great Oakley is in the Essex County Council highway area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock). A skip on the public road needs that council's licence – a licensed skip contractor applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

About Great Oakley

Great Oakley is a village and civil parish in the Tendring district of Essex, England. It is a long, narrow parish lying on the top of a low (25 m) ridge south of Ramsey Creek which drains northeast towards Harwich.

The parish extends south to Oakley Creek, a branch of Hamford Water, where stood Great Oakley Dock, now disused. At the 2021 census the parish had a population of 1,048.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or "top skips in Great Oakley". Check the carrier's CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Local notes

Great Oakley is in Tendring district, but Essex County Council (Essex Highways), not the district council, licences skips on the road; a licensed skip contractor must apply at least ten working days ahead, and the licence lasts two weeks. Great Oakley is a small settlement, so give the firm your full Great Oakley address and postcode rather than the nearest town's name, and check lorry access down any narrow lane before booking.

Essex County Council recycling centres (Love Essex) are for household waste; some sites accept limited DIY waste if you did the work yourself. Rules, booking and DIY limits change, so check before you travel and keep plasterboard and soil within the published limits. Source: Love Essex: DIY waste and find a recycling centre.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Essex County Council area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock) and ask them to apply. Recheck the council fees page on the day you book.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £111.66 figure is Essex County Council's published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
