Skip hire in Mistley

First published 15 October 2026. Last checked 15 October 2026.

Mistley is in the Essex County Council highway area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock). A skip on the public road needs that council's licence – a licensed skip contractor applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

About Mistley

Mistley is a village and civil parish in the Tendring district of northeast Essex, England. It is around 11 miles northeast of Colchester and is east of, and almost contiguous with, Manningtree.

The parish consists of Mistley and New Mistley, both lying beside the Stour Estuary, Mistley Heath, about a mile to the south, and Horsley Cross at the southern end of the parish. The village is in the parliamentary constituency of Harwich and North Essex.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or "top skips in Mistley". Check the carrier's CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Local notes

Mistley is in Tendring district, but Essex County Council (Essex Highways), not the district council, licences skips on the road; a licensed skip contractor must apply at least ten working days ahead, and the licence lasts two weeks. Mistley lies about 11 miles from Colchester but is its own place, so book with your full Mistley address and postcode; a firm that files the job under Colchester can send the lorry to the wrong place.

Essex County Council recycling centres (Love Essex) are for household waste; some sites accept limited DIY waste if you did the work yourself. Rules, booking and DIY limits change, so check before you travel and keep plasterboard and soil within the published limits. Source: Love Essex: DIY waste and find a recycling centre.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Essex County Council area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock) and ask them to apply. Recheck the council fees page on the day you book.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £111.66 figure is Essex County Council's published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
