Skip hire in Nailsea
Nailsea is in North Somerset – a separate unitary from Somerset Council. A skip on the public road needs a North Somerset licence – the hire firm applies. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.
Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Nailsea”. Check the carrier’s CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.
Which authority
North Somerset Council is the highway authority – not Somerset Council. Full permit detail: Skip permit: North Somerset Council. On that page (checked 2 September 2026): £86 standard, £122 with less than five working days’ notice, £172 retrospective (2026–27 charges PDF); at least five working days; company applies; £5m public liability; parking bay suspension when the skip is on the highway. County map: Skip hire in Somerset.
Private drive vs road
- Wholly on a driveway or other private land you control: no highway licence from that council.
- Any part on the public road or highway: yes. The hire firm applies.
- Pavement: you cannot put a skip there. National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.
Recycling centres
Nailsea sits near the Backwell recycling centre; Weston-super-Mare and Portishead are the other two North Somerset sites. North Somerset runs three recycling centres: Weston-super-Mare, Portishead and Backwell. You must book a slot before you visit any of them – vehicles without a valid booking may be turned away. Sites are for North Somerset residents’ household waste only; no commercial waste. No access on foot, by bicycle, mobility scooter or electric scooter. Book via North Somerset’s booking page. That is an HWRC rule, not a substitute for a licensed skip carrier when the pile is too big for a booked visit.
How to hire without a fake directory
- Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
- If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in North Somerset and ask them to apply. Give them more than five working days, and expect a bay suspension as well as the skip licence.
- Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.
Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £86 / £122 / £172 figures are North Somerset’s published permit fees, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
