Skip hire in Praa Sands
Praa Sands is in the Cornwall Council highway area. A skip on the public road needs that council’s licence – the hire firm applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.
About Praa Sands
Praa Sands, is a white-sand beach and coastal village in civil parish of Breage, in Cornwall, England. It lies off the A394 road between Helston and Penzance.
Formerly serving the local mining industry, it is now mostly a tourist-orientated area. It is classed as a village in the House of Commons Library settlement file.
Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Praa Sands”. Check the carrier’s CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.
Which authority
Cornwall Council is the highway authority. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Cornwall Council. On that page (checked 24 September 2026; live council page still lists these figures): £115 per calendar month for a standard licence, £163 for an emergency licence, extension £115 before expiry or £163 late, change £45, and a non-emergency application takes a minimum of two weeks. The skip company applies; a Streetworks Inspector may visit. Fees are reviewed from 1 April each year. Do not invent a different fee. County map and town pages: Skip hire in Cornwall.
Private drive vs road
- Wholly on a driveway or other private land you control: no highway licence from Cornwall Council.
- Any part on the public road or highway: yes. The hire firm applies.
- Pavement: you cannot put a skip there. National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.
Local notes
Praa Sands is in the Cornwall Council highway area. Prefer a private drive; coastal and harbour-side streets are tight for articulated skip lorries. If any part of the skip sits on the public road, the hire firm must apply for Cornwall Council's licence.
Cornwall Council’s HWRC charges page (checked 24 September 2026; last updated 13 August 2026 on that page) takes DIY waste at most sites, but not at Bodmin, Dudnance Lane, Helston, Tintagel or United Mines. Free weekly allowance where DIY is accepted: up to eight bags of soil or rubble, or up to eight bags or four sheets of plasterboard (kept separate); then charged excess rates apply. Booking is required at seven busier sites: Newquay, Saltash, St Erth, Bude, Launceston, St Austell and Bodmin (Lanivet). Sources: Cornwall HWRC charges and HWRC booking.
How to hire without a fake directory
- Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
- If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Cornwall Council area and ask them to apply. Allow more than two weeks for a non-emergency licence.
- Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.
Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £115 figure is Cornwall Council’s published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
