Skip hire in Cornwall
Cornwall is one unitary highway authority: Cornwall Council. A skip on the public road needs a Cornwall Council licence, and the skip company applies. A skip wholly on private land you control does not. This hub names the towns and the tip quirks; it is not a list of firms.
This is a hub, not a list of firms. Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Cornwall”. Check the carrier’s CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.
One authority, not a patchwork
Cornwall Council is the unitary council for the ceremonial county. Unlike Devon (three highway offices) or Somerset (three unitaries), there is one skip-licence office for Truro, Falmouth, Newquay, Penzance, St Austell and the rest. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Cornwall Council.
If the skip sits wholly on private land you control, you do not need a highway licence. If any part sits on the public road, you do. National rule: Do I need a skip permit? and GOV.UK skip licence (England and Wales).

Villages (HoC Village class)
Skip Clerk covers House of Commons Village-class settlements inside the Cornwall Council highway area, not only the S/M/L towns. These pages are not part of the public 1,174 towns claim. Each village page has a unique “About” overview plus the Cornwall Council permit facts (£115 per calendar month; min 2 weeks; last checked 24 September 2026). Tonight’s ship adds 161 Village-class pages, including Torpoint, Bude, St Blazey, Wadebridge, St Ives, Pool, Looe, Callington and more. 6 places stay queued until a unique overview can be sourced. Full list: Skip hire by town.

Town pages now live for Truro, Falmouth, Newquay, Penzance, St Austell, Bodmin, Redruth, Camborne, Helston, Launceston, Liskeard, Saltash, Hayle and Penryn. Further Cornwall towns from the HoC CBP-8322 list can follow later.

DIY waste at Cornwall recycling centres
Cornwall Council’s HWRC charges page (checked 24 September 2026; last updated 13 August 2026 on that page) takes DIY waste at most sites, but not at Bodmin, Dudnance Lane, Helston, Tintagel or United Mines. Free weekly allowance where DIY is accepted: up to eight bags of soil or rubble, or up to eight bags or four sheets of plasterboard (kept separate) – then charged excess rates apply. Booking is required at seven busier sites: Newquay, Saltash, St Erth, Bude, Launceston, St Austell and Bodmin (Lanivet). Sources: Cornwall HWRC charges and HWRC booking. National gypsum background: Plasterboard and skips.
That is an HWRC rule for household DIY, not a substitute for a licensed skip when the pile is too big.
How to hire without a fake directory
- Decide the size from the job, not the county – What size skip do I need?.
- If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in Cornwall Council and ask them to apply. Give them at least two weeks.
- Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.
Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link. Until then, use a licensed local operator and the council pages above.
