Skip hire in Rayne

First published 15 October 2026. Last checked 15 October 2026.

Rayne is in the Essex County Council highway area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock). A skip on the public road needs that council's licence – a licensed skip contractor applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

About Rayne

Rayne is a village and civil parish in Braintree district, about 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Braintree on the A120. It follows the line of Stane Street, the Roman road between Colchester and Braughing.

Its old railway station, on the closed Bishop's Stortford to Braintree branch, is now the visitor centre for the Flitch Way country park. At the 2021 census the parish had 2,360 people and the built-up area 2,154.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or "top skips in Rayne". Check the carrier's CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Local notes

Rayne is in Braintree district; Essex County Council, not Braintree District Council, licences skips on the road. The Rayne Heritage Trail lists more than 60 listed buildings and sites of interest, so on an older street agree the exact spot with the firm. The Flitch Way runs through the village; it is a trail, not road, so a skip cannot go on it. Any part on the highway needs a licensed contractor's application at least ten working days ahead.

Essex County Council recycling centres (Love Essex) are for household waste; some sites accept limited DIY waste if you did the work yourself. Rules, booking and DIY limits change, so check before you travel and keep plasterboard and soil within the published limits. Source: Love Essex: DIY waste and find a recycling centre.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Essex County Council area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock) and ask them to apply. Recheck the council fees page on the day you book.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £111.66 figure is Essex County Council's published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
