Skip hire in Rowhedge

First published 15 October 2026. Last checked 15 October 2026.

Rowhedge is in the Essex County Council highway area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock). A skip on the public road needs that council's licence – a licensed skip contractor applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

About Rowhedge

Rowhedge is a village in Colchester district, just over 3 miles (4.8 km) south-east of Colchester centre, in the civil parish of East Donyland. It stands on the west bank of the tidal River Colne, opposite Wivenhoe, and its High Street runs parallel to the river.

Ship and boat building at the Upper Yard and Lower Yard shaped the village; with that trade gone, housing estates now stand on both sites. A tidal barrier on the Colne, finished in 1994, protects it from flooding.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or "top skips in Rowhedge". Check the carrier's CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Private drive vs road

Local notes

Rowhedge is in Colchester district, but Essex County Council, not Colchester City Council, licences skips on the road. The High Street is the main road through the village, running beside the river; if you live on it, a drop wholly on your own drive avoids blocking the route. On the highway only a licensed skip contractor can apply, with at least ten working days' notice, and the published maximum is a 6-yard skip.

Essex County Council recycling centres (Love Essex) are for household waste; some sites accept limited DIY waste if you did the work yourself. Rules, booking and DIY limits change, so check before you travel and keep plasterboard and soil within the published limits. Source: Love Essex: DIY waste and find a recycling centre.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Essex County Council area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock) and ask them to apply. Recheck the council fees page on the day you book.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £111.66 figure is Essex County Council's published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
