Skip hire in Silver End

First published 13 October 2026. Last checked 13 October 2026.

Silver End is in the Essex County Council highway area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock). A skip on the public road needs that council's licence – a licensed skip contractor applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

About Silver End

Silver End is a village and civil parish between Witham and Braintree. Until the 1920s it was a small hamlet in Rivenhall parish; the industrialist Francis Henry Crittall then built it as a model village for workers at a new Crittall Windows factory.

The white, flat-roofed modernist houses on Francis Way and Silver Street date from that scheme, as does a village hall described as the largest in Britain.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or "top skips in Silver End". Check the carrier's CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Which authority

Essex County Council (Essex Highways) is the highway authority (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock). Full permit detail: Skip permit: Essex County Council. On that page (fees rechecked 13 October 2026 on Essex Highways' live skips page and fees-2026-27.css): £111.66 application and £111.66 renewal, licence valid two weeks; at least ten working days' notice; skip contractor only; £10m public liability; max 6-yard skip on the highway. Private drive vs road

Local notes

Silver End is in Braintree district; Essex County Council licences skips on the road. The 1920s houses sit in a conservation area on planned streets such as Francis Way and Silver Street, so agree the exact spot with the firm before delivery and keep clear of neighbours' access. A skip wholly on your own drive needs no Essex highway licence; any part on the road does, and only a licensed skip contractor can apply.

Essex County Council recycling centres (Love Essex) are for household waste; some sites accept limited DIY waste if you did the work yourself. Rules, booking and DIY limits change, so check before you travel and keep plasterboard and soil within the published limits. Source: Love Essex: DIY waste and find a recycling centre.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Essex County Council area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock) and ask them to apply. Recheck the council fees page on the day you book.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £111.66 figure is Essex County Council's published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
