Skip hire in Southend-on-Sea

First published 12 September 2026. Last checked 12 September 2026.

Southend-on-Sea sits in the Southend-on-Sea City Council highway area. A skip on the public road needs that council’s licence – a registered skip company usually applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Southend-on-Sea City Council is the highway authority for this town. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Southend-on-Sea City Council. On that page (checked 12 Sep 2026): £165 for occupation up to 21 calendar days (fees table on highway permits page, 12 Sep 2026). at least 10 working days. Ceremonial map: Skip hire in Essex.

Local notes

Coastal unitary on the Thames Estuary; Southend-on-Sea City Council licences the highway here, not Essex County Council. Classified-road carriageways are off-limits for skips. Fee note: £165 for occupation up to 21 calendar days (fees table on highway permits page, 12 Sep 2026), rechecked 12 Sep 2026.

The fee note above is from Southend-on-Sea City Council’s published fees table, not a hire quote.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Southend-on-Sea City Council highway area and ask them to apply. Give them the notice on the permit page.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk lists rules and council links, not a directory of firms. When we add a booking partner it will be labelled (affiliate) on partners.
