Skip hire in Stoke Ferry

First published 21 October 2026. Last checked 21 October 2026.

Stoke Ferry is in the Norfolk County Council highway area. A skip on the public road, pavement or verge needs the council's skip licence, and a new application is needed every time a skip is placed. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

About Stoke Ferry

Stoke Ferry is a village and civil parish in the borough of King's Lynn and West Norfolk, 6.5 miles south-east of Downham Market, on the River Wissey, once called the River Stoke. The parish covers 9.15 km² and had 1,020 residents at the 2011 census.

Stoke Ferry Hall is Grade II* listed, the 1860s windmill has been a home since 1986, and the Blue Bell pub-cafe was bought by the community in 2021 and reopened in 2022.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or "top skips in Stoke Ferry". Check the carrier's CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Which authority

Norfolk County Council is the highway authority for every Norfolk district (Breckland, Broadland, Great Yarmouth, King's Lynn and West Norfolk, North Norfolk, Norwich, South Norfolk). Full permit detail: Skip permit: Norfolk County Council. On the council's highways fees page (checked 21 October 2026; fees from 1 April 2026): £55.94 for the first 28 days and £55.94 for each further 28 days. The skip licence page asks for £5m public liability insurance, the waste carrier's certificate and a drawing of the skip position, so in practice the skip company applies. Trunk roads are National Highways, not the county. County map: Skip hire in Norfolk.

Local notes

Stoke Ferry is in the borough of King's Lynn and West Norfolk, but Norfolk County Council, not the borough council, licences skips on the road. The council does not print a notice period on its skip licence page, so ask the firm how much notice it needs, and expect a new application each time a skip is placed. The River Wissey runs past the village; if your property backs on to it, keep the skip on firm ground well back from the bank. There are listed buildings in the village, including Stoke Ferry Hall (Grade II*) and All Saints' Church (Grade II), so agree where the skip and the lorry will sit before delivery.

Norfolk's recycling centres need a booked slot (free, up to one week ahead). DIY waste from work you did yourself on your own home is free up to two 50-litre sacks or one item per visit, with no more than four such visits in any four weeks; above that you pay as you throw (rubble, soil and stones £4.50, plasterboard £14 per 100 litres). Plasterboard is taken only at Caister, Dereham, Hempton, King's Lynn, Norwich North, Norwich South and Thetford, and no site takes asbestos. Waste from work you paid a trader for gets no free allowance. Source: Norfolk County Council: DIY waste and Norfolk Recycling Centre bookings.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Norfolk County Council area and ask how much notice it needs for the licence. Recheck the council pages on the day you book.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £55.94 figure is Norfolk County Council's published licence fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
