Skip hire in Thaxted

First published 14 October 2026. Last checked 14 October 2026.

Thaxted is in the Essex County Council highway area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock). A skip on the public road needs that council's licence – a licensed skip contractor applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or "top skips in Thaxted". Check the carrier's CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Local notes

Thaxted is in Uttlesford district; Essex County Council licences skips on the road. The old A130 through the centre, past the Guildhall and church, became the B184 in the 1980s, and the centre has Grade I and Grade II listed buildings; near Town Street or the High Street, agree the exact spot and lorry access with the firm. Any part on the highway needs a licensed contractor's application at least ten working days ahead, and the published maximum is a 6-yard skip.

Essex County Council recycling centres (Love Essex) are for household waste; some sites accept limited DIY waste if you did the work yourself. Rules, booking and DIY limits change, so check before you travel and keep plasterboard and soil within the published limits. Source: Love Essex: DIY waste and find a recycling centre.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Essex County Council area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock) and ask them to apply. Recheck the council fees page on the day you book.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £111.66 figure is Essex County Council's published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
