Skip hire in Torquay
Torquay is the largest town in the Torbay unitary; Torbay Council issues the highway skip licence. A skip on the public road needs a Torbay Council licence – the skip owner (usually the hire firm) applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.
Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Torquay”. Check the carrier’s CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.
Which authority
Torbay Council is the highway authority for Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Torbay Council. Private drive vs road
- Wholly on a driveway or other private land you control: no Torbay highway licence.
- Any part on the public road or pavement: yes. The skip owner applies.
- Pavement: Torbay’s page covers skips on the road or pavement – treat pavement as needing the licence, and follow the firm’s Chapter 8 layout. National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.
DIY waste note
Household recycling centres in Torbay are run for Torbay residents under Torbay Council’s waste pages. For plasterboard, electricals and sofas, follow the hire firm’s rules and the national guides – do not assume a mixed skip will take them. National gypsum background: Plasterboard and skips. What to keep out: what you cannot put in a skip.
How to hire without a fake directory
- Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
- If it has to sit on the road or pavement, tell the firm you are in Torbay and that the skip owner must apply. Prefer more than ten days’ notice to avoid the enhanced fee.
- Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.
