Skip hire in West Bergholt

First published 14 October 2026. Last checked 14 October 2026.

West Bergholt is in the Essex County Council highway area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock). A skip on the public road needs that council's licence – a licensed skip contractor applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

About West Bergholt

West Bergholt, once known as Bergholt Sackville, is a village and civil parish in the City of Colchester district, 3 miles (5 km) north-west of Colchester centre. The village lies in and around a triangle formed by Colchester Road, Chapel Road and Lexden Road, with farms and woodland around it, including Hillhouse Wood (known locally as Bluebell Wood), bought by the Woodland Trust with help from local people.

At the 2021 census the parish had 3,310 people.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or "top skips in West Bergholt". Check the carrier's CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Private drive vs road

Local notes

West Bergholt is in the City of Colchester district, but Essex County Council, not Colchester City Council, licences skips on the road. If you live on Colchester Road, Chapel Road or Lexden Road, the three roads that frame the village, a drop wholly on your own drive avoids the licence and the traffic. On the highway only a licensed skip contractor can apply, with at least ten working days' notice.

Essex County Council recycling centres (Love Essex) are for household waste; some sites accept limited DIY waste if you did the work yourself. Rules, booking and DIY limits change, so check before you travel and keep plasterboard and soil within the published limits. Source: Love Essex: DIY waste and find a recycling centre.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the Essex County Council area (not Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock) and ask them to apply. Recheck the council fees page on the day you book.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £111.66 figure is Essex County Council's published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
