Skip hire in Aberdeen
Aberdeen City Council is the roads authority inside the city. A skip on the public road needs Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 permission – not Highways Act 1980. The council’s public Roadworks pages did not print a skip fee on 11 September 2026, so we do not invent one. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not need that permit. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.
Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Aberdeen”. Check the carrier on SEPA, then ask who will apply for the road permit.
Which authority
Aberdeen City Council is the roads authority. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Aberdeen City Council. On that page (checked 11 September 2026): fee and notice not printed on the public Roadworks hub – ask the hire firm or Roadworks Co-ordination; statute is Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, section 85. Country map: Skip hire in Scotland. Aberdeenshire Council covers towns outside the city boundary.
Private drive vs road
- Wholly on a driveway or other private land you control: no roads-authority permit.
- Any part on the public road or footway: yes. Ask the hire firm to apply under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.
- National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.
Four household recycling centres
Aberdeen has household waste and recycling centres at Bridge of Don, Bucksburn, Hazlehead and Tullos. Access is for vehicles under 3.5 tonnes; tippers, tractors and diggers are refused. Commercial and trade waste (including builders’ waste) is not permitted at any time – staff will turn those vehicles away. Source: Aberdeen HWRCs.
Private drive first
Because the public fee is not on the pages we checked, the cheapest certainty is a driveway drop. If the skip must sit on the road, get the hire firm to confirm the current Roadworks charge in writing before delivery.
How to hire without a fake directory
- Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
- If it has to sit on the road, name the roads authority and ask the firm to apply. Scotland is not Highways Act 1980.
- Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.
Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. No Aberdeen permit fee is quoted here because it was not on the public pages we checked. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
