Skip hire in Barry

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

Barry sits in the Vale of Glamorgan. The Vale council issues the waste skip licence for the adopted highway – householders cannot apply. A skip on the public road needs that licence. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Barry”. Check the carrier’s CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Which authority

Vale of Glamorgan Council is the highway authority. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Vale of Glamorgan Council. On that page (checked 11 September 2026): £80 for one month, at least one working day, contractor applies with £5m public liability. Nation map: Skip hire in Wales.

Private drive vs road

Local placement note

Barry Island approaches and denser streets around Holton Road often favour a private-drive drop if you have one. If it must sit on the road, the hire firm must already be registered with the Vale and apply at least one working day ahead – the one-month fee still applies for shorter stays.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm which principal council applies and ask them to apply. Use the notice period on the permit page.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £80 / one month figure is the council’s published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
