First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

Barry and other Vale of Glamorgan towns sit under this council for highway skips. The council’s Waste Skip Licence page (checked 11 September 2026) charges £80 for a one-month licence, needs at least one working day’s notice, and only accepts applications from registered contractors – not private householders.

As a private homeowner you cannot apply. Contact a skip provider; they register and apply. Public liability cover of £5 million is required to register.

The statutory hook is still Highways Act 1980, section 139. National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.

Who applies

A sensible order

  1. Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the licence.
  2. If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm at booking. They apply. Give them at least one working day.
  3. Check their waste-carrier number – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Size the job on the size guide.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no skip-hire prices on this page. Fee figures above are the council’s published permit charges, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
