Skip hire in Cardiff

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

Cardiff is Wales’s capital and a core city in the House of Commons town classification – still ship it with Cardiff Council’s permit rules. A skip on the public road needs a Cardiff Council licence – the registered skip trader applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Cardiff”. Check the carrier’s CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Which authority

Cardiff Council is the highway authority. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Cardiff Council. On that page (fees rechecked 11 September 2026 from the council’s Fees and Charges 2025/26): £42.76 for 7 days or £85.51 for 28 days, at least one working day’s notice, skip trader applies. Private drive vs road

Local placement note

Terraced streets in Cathays, Roath and Splott often leave little private hardstanding, so road drops are common – budget the permit and give the firm a working day. Around Cardiff Bay and the city centre, ask about pay-and-display bay charges on top of the licence. Prefer a private-drive drop if you have one.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm which principal council applies and ask them to apply. Use the notice period on the permit page.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £42.76 / 7 days or £85.51 / 28 days figure is the council’s published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
