Skip hire in Dalkeith

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

Dalkeith sits in Midlothian. Midlothian Council is the roads authority. A skip on the public road needs a Section 85 permit – £65 from 1 April 2026 with at least five working days to process (checked 11 September 2026). The person hiring must obtain the permit; hire companies must hold it before delivery. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Dalkeith”. Check the carrier on SEPA, then ask who will apply for the road permit.

Which authority

Private drive vs road

Town-centre access

Town-centre streets can leave little private hardstanding. Confirm with the hire firm that Midlothian’s permit will be in hand before delivery – an FPN applies if the skip goes on the road unpermitted.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, name the roads authority and ask the firm to apply. Scotland is not Highways Act 1980.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £65 figure is the council’s published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
