Skip hire in Dundee

Dundee City Council is the roads authority for the city. A skip on the public road needs permission under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 – not Highways Act 1980. Network Management publishes £70 per day or £205 for up to one month (2026/27) and a MyDundee request form. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not need that permit. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Private drive vs road

Baldovie and Riverside recycling centres

Dundee operates Household Waste Recycling Centres at Baldovie (Piper Street, DD4 0NT) and Riverside (Wright Avenue, DD2 1UR). Household waste only – no commercial or trade waste. Dundee residents (and Angus residents in the Monifieth and Sidlaw wards under an inter-authority arrangement for Baldovie) may use the sites. Source: Dundee HWRCs.

Van and trailer permits

Householders using a van or trailer for household waste need a free vehicle permit before visiting Baldovie or Riverside – permits are not issued at the gate. Source: Dundee HWRC vehicle permits.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, name the roads authority and ask the firm to apply. Scotland is not Highways Act 1980.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.
