Permits
Skip permit: Dundee City Council
If the skip sits on a Dundee public road, you need the Roads Authority’s permission under the Roads (Scotland) Act – not Highways Act 1980. Dundee City Council’s Network Management page (checked 11 September 2026) publishes 2026/27 charges of £70 per day or £205 for up to one month, and points you to a MyDundee “Skip Permit – Request It” form.
Any person depositing a skip on a public road without the permission of the Roads Authority commits an offence – Dundee’s own wording. Use the MyDundee request (or ask the hire firm to). Do not invent English Highways Act fees.
When you need one
- Public road in Dundee: yes.
- Wholly on a driveway or other private land you control: no. National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.
The statutory hook is Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, section 85.
Who applies
Dundee’s Network Management page links a MyDundee service for skips and scaffolding. It does not print a contractor-only rule in the text we checked. Ask the hire firm whether they will submit the MyDundee request for you.

A sensible order
- Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the permit.
- If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm you are in Dundee City and ask them to use MyDundee (or do it yourself).
- Check their waste-carrier registration on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Size the job on the size guide.
Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no skip-hire prices on this page. The £70 / £205 figures are Dundee’s published 2026/27 permit charges, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
