Skip hire in Greenock

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

Greenock sits in Inverclyde. Inverclyde Council is the roads authority. A skip on the public road needs a skip permit – £36.55 per week on the 2026/27 fees schedule (checked 11 September 2026), with an extra £85.90 if applied for retrospectively. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Greenock”. Check the carrier on SEPA, then ask who will apply for the road permit.

Which authority

Inverclyde Council is the roads authority. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Inverclyde Council – £36.55/week; retrospective add-on £85.90. Country map: Skip hire in Scotland. Nearby: Paisley (Renfrewshire – separate authority).

Private drive vs road

Steep streets and waterfront

Steep streets above the waterfront and denser tenement blocks often need a road drop. Do not place the skip and apply later – Inverclyde’s retrospective add-on is on top of the weekly fee. Prefer private hardstanding where you have it.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, name the roads authority and ask the firm to apply. Scotland is not Highways Act 1980.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £36.55 / week figure is the council’s published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
