Skip hire in Havering
Havering is a HoC Core city (London) – not one of the 1,174 small/medium/large towns. A skip on the public road needs the London Borough of Havering highway process – the skip company usually applies, not you. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Private drive vs road
- Wholly on a driveway or other private land you control: no London Borough of Havering highway skip licence.
- Any part on the public road or adopted highway: yes (unless the City of London no-standing-skip rule applies – see the permit page).
- TfL red routes: usually TfL, not the borough – confirm which authority owns the road.

- Havering’s new highway skip licence is £162 for 14 days, with renewal bands at £110 (7 days) and £210 (14 days).
- The council’s skip-permits page noted processing delays when we checked – build that into the hire firm’s lead time.

How to hire without a fake directory
- Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
- If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm you are in the London Borough of Havering highway area and ask them to apply. Give them the notice on the permit page.

- Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.
