Skip hire in Inverness
Inverness (Inbhir Nis in the HoC settlement list) sits in the Highland Council area. Highland Council is the roads authority. A skip on the public road needs a builders’ skip permit – £122 for the first week and £61 per additional week, with at least seven days’ notice on Highland’s permit-to-occupy pages (checked 11 September 2026). A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not need that permit. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.
Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Inverness”. Check the carrier on SEPA, then ask who will apply for the road permit.
Which authority
Highland Council is the roads authority. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Highland Council – £122 first week; £61 extra weeks; ≥7 days; £5m public liability. Country framing: Skip hire in Scotland.
Private drive vs road
- Wholly on a driveway or other private land you control: no roads-authority permit.
- Any part on the public road or footway: yes. Ask the hire firm to apply under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.
- National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.
Highland roads, Highland tip rules
Highland Council publishes household waste recycling centre information for the council area – check the live Highland waste pages for Inverness / Henderson Drive opening hours and any booking rules before you travel with DIY waste. Do not take commercial skip waste to a household site.
Long lead times
Inverness is a long way from the central-belt depots some national operators use. Ask when the truck will actually arrive, and whether they already hold Highland roads permission, before you strip a room.
How to hire without a fake directory
- Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
- If it has to sit on the road, name the roads authority and ask the firm to apply. Scotland is not Highways Act 1980.
- Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.
Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £122 / £61 figures are Highland’s published permit fees, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
