Skip hire in Irvine

Irvine sits in North Ayrshire. North Ayrshire Council is the roads authority – not Ayrshire Roads Alliance. A skip on the public road needs a North Ayrshire permit – £74 per four-week block on the road maintenance permits page (checked 11 September 2026), with £5m public liability. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Irvine’s new-town distributors are often easier for skip lorries than older harbour streets. Contact roadspermits@north-ayrshire.gov.uk via the hire firm – this is not an ARA application.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, name the roads authority and ask the firm to apply. Scotland is not Highways Act 1980.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.
