Skip hire in Livingston

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

Livingston sits in West Lothian. West Lothian Council is the roads authority. A skip on the public road needs a Section 85 permit – £109.21 with extensions at £25.88 per week on the council’s S.85 page (checked 11 September 2026). Applications are accepted from skip companies only. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not need that permit. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Livingston”. Check the carrier on SEPA, then ask who will apply for the road permit.

Private drive vs road

Community Recycling Centre bookings

All vehicles visiting a West Lothian Community Recycling Centre must book in advance. Only household waste from West Lothian residents is accepted – no business, trader or charity waste. Oakbank (Livingston) is one of five CRCs; residents may book any of the five. Source: West Lothian CRC bookings.

New-town drives

Livingston’s planned layout often leaves driveway or hardstanding room. Prefer a private drop if you can, then size the job on the size guide before you pay for a road permit you have not verified.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, name the roads authority and ask the firm to apply. Scotland is not Highways Act 1980.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £109.21 figure is West Lothian’s published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
