Skip hire in Motherwell

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

Motherwell sits in North Lanarkshire. North Lanarkshire Council is the roads authority. A skip on the public road needs a Section 85 permit – £143.33 per 28 days with 28 days’ notice (from 1 April 2026; checked 11 September 2026). A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Motherwell”. Check the carrier on SEPA, then ask who will apply for the road permit.

Which authority

Private drive vs road

Town-centre and station streets

Streets around Motherwell town centre and the station can be tight for larger builders’ skips. Prefer a private-drive drop where you have one, and give the hire firm the full 28-day Section 85 lead if it must sit on the road.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, name the roads authority and ask the firm to apply. Scotland is not Highways Act 1980.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £143.33 / 28 days figure is the council’s published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
