Skip permit: North Lanarkshire Council

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

If the skip sits on a North Lanarkshire public road, you need a Section 85 skip permit from North Lanarkshire Council under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 – not Highways Act 1980. The permit and service charges page (updated 1 April 2026; checked 11 September 2026) publishes £143.33 per 28-day period. Roads permits ask for 28 days’ notice. Payment is required before the permit is issued.

Skips deposited without permission or outside conditions attract a fixed penalty notice in addition to the permit fee. Give the hire firm the full 28-day lead.

When you need one

The statutory hook is Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, section 85.

A sensible order

  1. Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the permit.
  2. If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm which roads authority covers your street and ask them to apply under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.
  3. Check their waste-carrier registration on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Size the job on the size guide.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no skip-hire prices on this page. The fee figures are North Lanarkshire Council's published permit charges, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
