Skip hire in Musselburgh

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

Musselburgh sits in East Lothian. East Lothian Council is the roads authority. A skip on the public road needs a builders’ skip permit – commercial £62 for four weeks (or household £41 for a qualifying Council Tax main residence) on the 2026/27 Road Services fees schedule (checked 11 September 2026). Skip permits are usually issued within about 10 days. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not need that permit. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Musselburgh”. Check the carrier on SEPA, then ask who will apply for the road permit.

Private drive vs road

High Street and estuary streets

High Street and estuary-side streets can be busy. Confirm whether your job is commercial or household under East Lothian’s schedule before the firm applies, and allow the usual ~10-day skip-permit lead.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, name the roads authority and ask the firm to apply. Scotland is not Highways Act 1980.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £62 / £41 figures are the council’s published permit fees, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
