Skip hire in North Berwick
North Berwick sits in East Lothian. East Lothian Council is the roads authority. A skip on the public road needs a builders’ skip permit – commercial £62 for four weeks on the 2026/27 schedule (checked 11 September 2026), with a household band if you qualify. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.
Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in North Berwick”. Check the carrier on SEPA, then ask who will apply for the road permit.
Which authority

Private drive vs road
- Wholly on a driveway or other private land you control: no roads-authority permit.
- Any part on the public road or footway: yes. Ask the hire firm to apply under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.
- National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.
Seafront and High Street
Seafront and High Street streets can be busy in season. Prefer private hardstanding, and allow East Lothian’s usual skip-permit lead before a road drop.
How to hire without a fake directory
- Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
- If it has to sit on the road, name the roads authority and ask the firm to apply. Scotland is not Highways Act 1980.
- Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.
Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £62 / £41 figures are the council’s published permit fees, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
