Private drive vs road

City centre and parking bays

City-centre and riverside streets often leave little private hardstanding. If the skip sits in a metered bay or council car park, the 2026 form warns that parking bays will be suspended and Parking Operations may bill lost revenue on top of the £40 weekly charge – ask the hire firm to check before delivery day.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, name the roads authority and ask the firm to apply. Scotland is not Highways Act 1980.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.
