Skip hire in Swansea

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

Swansea’s city centre and SA1 waterfront leave little room for large lorries on narrow approaches. Swansea Council issues the highway skip permit. A skip on the public road needs that permit – the operator applies. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Swansea”. Check the carrier’s CBDU number, then ask who will apply for the road licence.

Which authority

Swansea Council is the highway authority. Full permit detail: Skip permit: Swansea Council. On that page (checked 11 September 2026): £60 for 28 days, at least 24 hours’ notice, £5 million public liability, max two skips per permit. City-centre skips may need to be covered and locked. Private drive vs road

Local placement note

If the drop is in the city centre, ask the firm about covered and locked skips and whether lighting and cones are required on that stretch of highway. Mumbles and Uplands streets can be tight for larger builders’ skips – size the job honestly and prefer a driveway where you have one.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, tell the firm which principal council applies and ask them to apply. Use the notice period on the permit page.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. The £60 / 28 days figure is the council’s published permit fee, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
