Permits
Skip permit: Suffolk County Council
If the skip sits on a public road in the Suffolk County Council area, you need a highway skip licence. On the council page checked 12 Sep 2026: £95 first two weeks. 3 working days. A skip wholly on private land you control does not need this licence.
You usually do not apply as a householder. Tell the hire firm at booking and give them the notice the council asks for. Do not put the skip on the pavement unless the licence allows it.

A sensible order
- Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the licence.
- If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm at booking. They apply. Give them the notice above.
- Check their waste-carrier number – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Size the job on the size guide.
Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no skip-hire prices on this page. Fee figures above are the council’s published permit charges (or an honest note when none was printed), not a hire quote.
