Skip hire in Elgin

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

Elgin sits in Moray. Moray Council is the roads authority. A skip on the public road needs a Section 85 permit from Moray Council – hire company only; ≥5 working days; fee not printed on public page (checked 11 September 2026). Moray only issues via a bona fide skip hire company with at least five working days – no printed £ on the public page we checked. A skip wholly on a private drive you control does not need that permit. This page is placement and waste rules, not a list of firms.

Skip Clerk does not invent provider rankings, phone numbers or “top skips in Elgin”. Check the carrier on SEPA, then ask who will apply for the road permit.

Private drive vs road

High Street and cathedral approaches

High Street and cathedral approaches can be tight. Book through a hire firm that will apply to roadspermits@moray.gov.uk – customers cannot lodge the permit themselves on Moray’s page.

How to hire without a fake directory

  1. Decide the size from the job – What size skip do I need?.
  2. If it has to sit on the road, name the roads authority and ask the firm to apply. Scotland is not Highways Act 1980.
  3. Ask for the waste-carrier number and check it on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Keep plasterboard, electricals and sofas out of a mixed skip unless the operator says otherwise – what you cannot put in a skip.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no prices for skip hire on this page. Moray does not print a permit pound figure on the public page we checked – ask the hire firm, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
