Skip permit: Carmarthenshire Council

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

Llanelli and other Carmarthenshire towns sit under Carmarthenshire County Council for highway skip licences. The council’s skip licence page (checked 11 September 2026) charges £75 per month or part thereof (fee valid until 31 March 2027), asks for five working days’ notice, and issues permits only to registered skip operators with the required insurance.

It is not the customer’s job to apply. The skip operator must apply and hold the permit before placement. Public liability must be at least £10 million, and the applicant must hold a waste carrier’s licence.

When you need one

The statutory hook is still Highways Act 1980, section 139. National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.

Who applies

Registered skip operators apply (form + invoice). Email streetcare@carmarthenshire.gov.uk. Allow five working days.

A sensible order

  1. Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the licence.
  2. If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm at booking. They apply. Give them at least five working days.
  3. Check their waste-carrier number – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Size the job on the size guide.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no skip-hire prices on this page. Fee figures above are the council’s published permit charges, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
